Stories of hope

Senaa, a widowed mother of three, owned a successful salon and barber shop in the Nineveh Plains, Iraq, before ISIS attacked. With her home and business burned, she fled with her children to a nearby town where they lived in a refugee camp. Always a hard-worker, Senaa returned to her hometown after ISIS was pushed out. She began running the business out of her new residence to help make ends meet and support her children. But she didn’t have the means to open another shop.
“I never thought that I would have my salon back… I am so grateful for this second chance!“ — Senaa
Because of the generosity of Shai Fund supporters, we invested in Senaa—purchasing foundational equipment for her to reopen the salon—allowing her to fully support her family again. The salon also provides for another family of five who assist with running the business.
Senaa’s salon is one of 45+ businesses Shai Fund invested in last year (2019).
There are many more people like Senaa eager to work again to support their families. Your gift restores dignity and provides sustainability for people in need.
