Armed conflict has devastated Sudan. In Darfur, militias burned villages, destroyed farmland, and dismantled vital infrastructure. Families who once lived in relative stability now scavenge for food. Clean water, medicine, and shelter are nearly impossible to find.
The toll is staggering. Over two-thirds of Sudan’s population lacks life’s most basic necessities. In displacement camps, up to 25 children die each day—victims of hunger and preventable disease.
But amid the chaos, displaced Darfurians rose up with courage and compassion. Partnering with Shai Fund, they used trusted networks to build a grassroots supply chain across conflict zones. These community leaders didn’t just deliver aid: they delivered survival.
In fall and winter 2024, they reached 2,147 people—324 families across Jebel Marra, Zalingei, and Nyala—with life-saving food. This included 1,823 children fed through Shai Fund’s network.
Their impact rippled across communities:
But this project went beyond food. It nurtured peace.
Muslim and Christian communities in Darfur worked side by side to serve one another. In a place torn by violence, trust began to grow. People saw each other not as enemies, but as neighbors.
This collaboration showed what’s possible when communities unite across lines of difference—creating an environment of mutual respect that will strengthen future relief and recovery efforts. The work in Sudan is far from over; your partnership with Shai Fund ensures support for the ongoing food distribution network in Darfur.
